Weekly Club Competition

For Little athletes and Junior athletes with a Category A membership, weekly club competition is usually held on Saturday mornings at the Sydney Academy of Sport, Wakehurst Parkway, Narrabeen from 7:30 to 8:00am during the summer season, with occasional Friday night twilight sessions. Early in the season, competition generally finishes before midday, and later in the season usually finishes between 10:30am and 11:30am.

The main program begins at 8:00am, with some events such as the 1500 metres, race walks and 200m/300m hurdles scheduled earlier, closer to 7:30am. Athletes compete in a variety of events across the season, with running events typically divided into ability-based heats managed by the Age Manager.

Each age group is led by an Age Manager, supported by parent helpers who assist with the flow and supervision of competition. This helps create a structured, supportive and community-based competition environment for all athletes.

Family involvement

To help weekly competition run smoothly, families are required to assist with parent duties on four occasions across the season, with two duties before Christmas and two after Christmas. We also encourage parents to sign on and help out their Age Manager where possible but this does not replace the need to complete the four formal duties throughout the season.

To assist with smooth operation of weekly club competitions and to keep everyone safe, only parents who are signed on to perform a duty are permitted within the competition area, including when helping the Age Manager. Families can watch from outside the competition area, including behind the fence or outside throwing areas.

Parents who would like to be with their child during competition should sign on as an Age Manager helper at the volunteer sign-on desk.

Representative events and uniforms

Eligible athletes may represent Manly Warringah at NSW Athletics events and championships, subject to the club’s representative selection requirements. Families should refer to the club’s representative selection information for eligibility and selection details.

For external competitions such as Treloar Shield, Zone, Regional, State Championships and State Relays, athletes must wear the Manly Warringah Centre uniform. Link to Uniform Information
