Manly Warringah Athletics welcomes athletes of all abilities. We are committed to providing inclusive and accessible athletics opportunities for all individuals, regardless of age or ability.
Our Para / Multi-Class group supports athletes with a disability, including athletes with physical, intellectual, vision, and other eligible impairments. The group provides opportunities to train, compete, build confidence, and take part in weekly club competition as well as selected inter-club and championship events.
The group is managed by Therese Solomon, Vice President of Manly Warringah Athletics. For Littles and Juniors, weekly club competition is held on Saturday mornings and usually includes five programmed events across running, throwing, and jumping disciplines.
Classification is not required for club competition or Zone Championships, but athletes need an official Athletics Australia disability classification to compete at Regional, State Championships and other inter-club events.
Please contact vp@manlyathletics.org.au for more information or to express interest in joining the group.
Para / Multi-Class Athletes at Treloar Shield Competitions
Treloar Shield is NSW Athletics’ summer track and field team competition series - “Mate vs Mate, Club vs Club”. It is held across multiple rounds during the season, giving athletes the opportunity to compete and earn points towards their club’s overall score.
Across the rounds, clubs build points with the aim of qualifying for the Treloar Shield Final. Athletes aged 9 to 90+ can take part in a rotating program of track and field events, with the competition designed to be friendly and welcoming for athletes chasing personal bests, qualification standards, club points, or the experience of representing Manly Warringah in inter-club competition.
For more information, visit Treloar Shield - NSW Athletics.
Para / Multi-Class Athletes at Little and Junior Zone Championships
The North East Metropolitan Zone Championships are held between local clubs in our zone, usually in November or December. No official Athletics Australia disability classification is required to compete at Zone Championships, and all eligible athletes are encouraged to take part.
Para / Multi-Class Athletes at Regional & State Championships
NSW Athletics conduct 100m, 800m, discus, and long jump events for Para / Multi-Class athletes at Regional and State Track & Field Championships, held in February and March. Events are conducted as multi-disability events, with results calculated against the relevant multi-disability standard for each athlete’s classification.
Classification
Classification groups athletes with similar impairments for competition so events can be conducted as fairly as possible. It is only required for Little Athletes who want to compete at Regional and State Championship level. It is not required for club competition or Zone Championships.
