Please note the following regarding athlete selection for the State Relays:
Littles Age Group (8s–12s)
- Selection Period: Weeks 1 to 6 of competition.
- To be eligible for selection in a specific event, an athlete must have competed in that event at least 50% of the times it was offered during MWA's weekly Saturday morning competitions.
- Athlete performance will be assessed using an average of their best results.
- For example: If an event was offered 5 times during MWA's weekly Saturday morning competitions, the average of an athlete’s best three results—from MWA or Treloar Shield competitions—will be used.
- The Centre Selection Committee will determine the best athletes for selection. Where athletes have similar averages, additional criteria such as personal bests (PBs) and head-to-head results may be taken into consideration.
Junior Age Group (13s+) - Full and Partial Membership (Category A and B)
- Selection Period: Weeks 1 to 7 of competition.
- To be eligible for selection in a specific event, an athlete must have competed in that event at least once at a MWA or NSWA competition in the current 2025/26 season.
- The Selection Committee will use Season Best performances to select athletes. Where athletes have similar results, additional criteria such as averages and head-to-head comparisons may be taken into consideration
Team-Based Considerations
- It is important to note that State Relays is a team based competition. Selections are made based on combinations of athletes to give the best, strongest overall teams across the different events while trying to give as many athletes as possible the opportunity to represent the Centre. This may lead to athletes being selected for events other than their favourite event.
